I pull photos of girls in turbans from any and every fashion blog. They. Are. So. Cool. I woke up this morning to Miss Brinson trotting around the apartment with one on! “Oh my goodness!! Can I take your photo?” Pretty soon I will be wearing one myself with help from the newly established pro, of course.
The snow is melting away and I am headed to Louisville with TJ! Valentine’s Day is on MONDAY and so is the ONE YEARAVERSARRY of this blog!!! YAAYYY!
Happy snow trumping, my friends!
Let me guess what you are thinking. “Didn’t she do that shoot forever ago??” The answer is yes. I know, it is terrible that I am just now busting them out! Although the clothes are not the brightly colored mismatched patterned goodness that is coming at us this Spring, they are the clothes for everyday. For me, this shoot was more about collaboration than anything else. It was SO MUCH fun planning and combining ideas and thoughts! Shooting in the studio is not my forte… I hope to get better at it as time goes on. I ripped up many-a-Vogue for lighting and modeling ideas, and presented them to mastermind Jim Veneman. We met and he helped me do the lighting setup days ahead. Kristi McMurry had been pumping ideas into my head for months and helped me to recreate the lighting on the actual shooting day. Haley Gallagher, who is an amazing stylist, helped with the clothing and makeup. She compiled pieces from multiple closets to come up with cohesive looks. TJ Hester, poor guy, helped me transport so many shoes, clothes, and beauty products. Margaret Brinson worked some flip magic and came up with some fun little videos (which you can see HERE and HERE on her blog). She also helped me make a noteworthy playlist for our time in the studio. Last but not least, Alesia Fisher (the superstar of the whole ordeal) was absolutely incredible. She works so very hard at school and her job, and she somehow fit me in. I met her for the first time doing this shoot and she exceeded my expectations (which were already pretty darn high)! She played a huge part in figuring out and doing her own makeup (she can do eyes like no other).
Basically, a big thank you goes to everyone who helped out. It was so meaningful to me because I never could have done it by myself! It was a great learning experience, and I am so thankful to be surrounded by such talented people.

Taking a break from Cairo….Here are some photos from my time with Anna the other day! Miss Bodenhammer is a talented photographer, a super kind individual, and loves her some Urban Outfitters! Our time together was phenomenal-it consisted of lunching at Chez Lu Lu, rummaging through her closet full of the cutest dresses ever, choosing from my many lip colors, and zooming from store front to store front. Enjoy!
Anna, you rock. Thank you classic Birmingham store fronts (Highlands Bar & Grill, Renaissance Records, Reed Books, and Zoe’s Consignment & Vintage) for letting us use your facades! Everyone should visit ALL of those places.
P.s. I could listen to this song over and over (Basic Space Pariah Remix, by the XX) and it is the most adorable video, but the saddest French film!! I love watching her dance around.
P.s.s. Guess what? I am going to Florence for a few days to provide some extra hands during a week long shoot…for Billy Reid’s Spring 11 collection!
So many shoes! So many clothes! The cutest model ever!
This is a glimpse behind the scenes of the shoot I did… with the help of Kristi Mcmurry, Haley Gallagher, Margaret Brinson, and Alesia Fisher….
Each one of the ladies did different things (I will explain later!!) and I was so grateful for them all. I hope you like the photos when I post them soon…I am not really a studio gal, but I figured I needed to give it a try, and if I was going to give it a try I was going to go all out!
This Sunday, Haley, Margaret, Kristi, and I piled up and went to a local greenhouse. Despite the fact that they were closed, the sweet owner offered to stay late for us. Kristi and I had been wanting to do a shoot together, and it just now happened!! Haley is a fabulous stylist that just happens to be gorgeous… so of course I wanted to collaborate with her! Kristi got to take photographs of Margaret while Haley and I ventured around the grounds.

My fellow shooter Kristi Mcmurry. See her photos from the day on her blog, here!
last week we taught our Hartland class a little bit about street fashion photography. they looked at magazines and a handful of scott schuman and garance dore’s images, and we related those to how they can look at things differently even at their school and in their city.
today we got to bring a couple of the girls from Hartland to ussssss today! they got to photograph students that they considered fashionable. i think andrea and terrikah really enjoyed seeing the various clothes, people, and style here! while andrea was more shy, terrikah gave her subjects serious instructions. all in all though, our goal is to make them feel special, and i hope this day did exactly that.
here are a few of andrea’s images:

There is so much of it here. Maybe not as much as there is at the Olympics, but it’s enough for me.
Instead of grumbling about it though (although it does get tiring and all I want to do is stay inside and eat leftover cupcakes and passion tea), I did a shoot with my dear friend Margaret. She looked so lovely and was brave enough to face the cold AND look fabulous!
