Summer fabrics, how I love them! I have collected some good finds over the summer, both antique and not so much. I’ve been enjoying my linen Billy Reid shorts, vintage finds including shoes, blouses, paintings, and this perfect book, “Shopping Around the East and Near East.” If only I had found that book a few years ago, it would have brought me much knowledge as I wandered through the tunnels of markets in many-a-country!!
Anyways, today is my last day in Florence! I can’t even believe that my time at Billy Reid has come to a close. I can’t wait to share the behind the scenes photos from the Fall Campaign! Unfortunately, you will have to wait patiently until the campaign photos are released next week, though!
I am headed to Asheville, NC tomorrow for a holiday! I hope to do some extreme outdoor activities (hahahaha), eat some amazing food, and sit by the river at our cabin! Expect photos from that as well, of course.
Mmmmm…. Louisville was wonderful! We antiqued like there was no tomorrow, strolled through Bardstown Road, lounged around, played with some kiddos, spent all of Sunday at Sojourn, and saw the movie we have all been waiting for, Tree of Life. It was a lovely weekend, and I was sad to see it go!

Now I bring to you…a very condensed Louisville dining guide! We brunched every day and had amazing dinners. Eiderdown was a new restaurant for me, and I loved it! You must go and get the popcorn as your appetizer! Crazy, I know, but it is Louisville. Everything is quirky. Spinelli’s is one of my favorites; its the wildest place and the white pizza blows my mind every single time. Lynn’s Paradise Cafe is the tackiest restaurant I have ever seen (it is like that on purpose…a total tourist trap) and I can’t get enough of it. Their breakfast is to die for, and the servings are massive. The crepes from Java Brewing Co. get me every time as well. Delicious. In addition, Ramsi’s Cafe on the World is still my number one Louisville favorite… they specialize in dishes from numerous cultures. Once you take one bite of your Egyptian dish (or whatever you choose), you are transported across the seas. Okay, now I have to explain why there are so many photos of that one muffin. Well, that is because it is the best muffin in the world. The little guy is from Quills Coffee, the best shop in Louisville, and it is blackberry banana chocolate chip. Yes, all of those things combined with an orange on the side make it the best muffin ever. Therefore, it deserves a few photos, right? Also, they have amazing red lattes there. I look forward to getting one every time we visit! So much food talk! Grief. But vacation is about the food and the company, so I would say that it was definitely an amazing getaway to the Hester household!
This past Saturday, I was on the other side of the camera (well sort of) with TJ and Margaret… dressed in 20s attire! Cari Phillips and Katlyn Moncada recruited us to be their models for a class project and we were happy to oblige. If someone is asking me to dress up for them in themed garb (from my favorite clothing era, no less) then I am bound to say yes.
Saturday afternoon rolled around and we drove…to the scariest house I have EVER been in. You have no idea. I will not say too much because I don’t want my mom and dad inquiring about why I was in some scary house in the first place with four other friends and umpteen cameras.
Things were going real nice and the photos were turning out quite pretty until TJ was standing in the doorway and HE HEARD FOUR FOOTSTEPS and declared it was time for us to, as my dad says, “blow this place.” We scurried like I have never scurried before in those red Mary Janes of mine. Moral of the story no. 1: DO. NOT. GO. IN. SCARY. HOUSES. FOR. THE. SAKE. OF. PHOTO. PROJECTS (even if they are for Jim Veneman). Honestly, I was hoping an image of a ghost would turn out on my film. Moral of the story no. 2: Go to S&J Grocery instead. They are very nice there.

I used Vogue’s shoot, “The Society Slouch” with Caroline Trentini and Chanel Iman, as my inspiration! I almost wore my sparkly Nando Jones top. Sadly, it didn’t make the cut.
While we are on the subject of Vogue, I would like to announce that I am officially going to be an intern at Billy Reid this summer! I am ecstatic. I recently found some exceptional behind the scenes photos of Billy Reid’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection during NY Fashion Week… see those HERE.

School is about to be a whirlwind and I am strangely apprehensive about it!! There are already stories to be written for the newspaper, people to be interviewed, photos to edit, and friends to be seen! Basically, I totally feel like a Martha here running around like a nutso. When I was reading last night, I was sincerely comforted by Luke 10:41-42….”’Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’”
But as the whirlwind is about to begin, I keep thinking about Ojai!! IT WAS THE DREAMIEST TRIP EVER. Ojai Valley Inn & Spa is honestly a feast for the eyes. My mom traveled there ten years ago and has been dying to go back ever since. California was the only place my family of three could agree on for vacation, and so we ran with it! My mom referred to this trip as our “appetizer” to California. Well, our appetizer of a trip left me longing for the full course.
I LOVE OJAI.
Little oranges called pixies (locally grown, naturally) are left in your room for snacking, and chocolate finds your pillow nightly. Lavender grows EVERYWHERE and the air even smells like it. YEAH. Go to the herb garden (yes there is one of those) if you feel like strolling through the wonderfully scented outdoors on steroids. California light? Yes, everything they say about it is true. Popsicles are handed out at the pool so you can cool off (even though the temps are PERFECT). Olive oil? Grown in town (Am I in Spain again??). Multiple pools? I don’t even think I saw all of them, but I managed to loaf at three. YOGA CLASSES!!!!!!!! I have never gotten this fit ON VACATION. And it is especially great because they tell you “Relaaaaax, you are on vacationnnn!” But then you feel it later and think ‘Hey! I did do something in that class!’ And I got a sneak peak at the spa. TO. DIE. FOR. Cucumber and mint water is never further than a few steps away…hydration recommended. Blue tile, lush robes, decadent body products. SO. BEAUTIFUL. And I WENT ON A TEN-MILE BIKE RIDE!!!!!! It felt so good!! Once again, thank you perfect weather.

If you are like me, you are longing to vacate—far far away! I am absolutely dying to get somewhere warm- HOT even! Doesn’t that sound better than having to scrape ice off your (MY) car as you (I mean I) fear for your (MY) life as you (I) venture out in the frigid weather to go print off photos???
So travel with me, if you will, to the ocean.
Just imagine yourself sitting in the sand with a magazine, sweltering happily, listening to Beirut or something exotic like that. Maybe even the Vicky Cristina Barcelona Soundtrack. At least that’s what I do…
